Backcountry Magazine Review (2021): Testers appreciated the wooden topsheet almost as much as they enjoyed arcing turns on the Burnt Special, with one noting of the soul-shred style, “The beautiful wood finish reflects how these skis perform.” Another was more impressed with their dimensions, calling them “that magic, mid-fat excellence that helps make them versatile for all terrain types in average conditions.”

Designed by Sugarloaf local Jared Dicentes, the Burnt Special is a true all mountain ski that is as much fun on groomers as it is off piste. The burly Burnt Special is our go-to East Coast touring ski, and it's old school construction makes it reliable and resilient for adventures worldwide. The rockered tip has a softer flex to help with turn entry as well as adding float on those super soft days. The ski is a true cambered ski, so you’ll have no problem holding an edge on steep hard snow while enjoying the “pop” from a cambered ski.

The ski get’s its super performance from our “Mainer Wood Core”. Using locally sourced Maple and Poplar that is hand selected for its full grain and high quality. Each ski core is made right here at our factory at Sugarloaf, Maine to ensure your ski begins its journey with the best possible foundation. The sidewall material is Maple which has better performance characteristics than P-tex sidewalls and is much better for our environment. Our wood veneer top sheets are all FCS Certified and completely unique. Choose from Curly Maple, Domestic Gum, Elm, Walnut, Cherry, or Turkey Feather Ash.

 We fully wrap each ski with specially treated steel metal edges for durability and peak performance and use DuraSurf base material. For those who are looking for speed we also have ISOSPEED Cold and All Temp World Cup race base material available for custom orders. Titinal can also be added on custom models for added damping and weight.
