Ski Descriptions, Winter 2023

Burnt Special

  • Gear of the Year, Backcountry Magazine (2021)

Designed by Sugarloaf local Jared Dicentes. A true all mountain ski that is as much fun on groomers as it is off piste, the Burnt Special is our go-to East Coast touring ski. The rockered tip has a softer flex to help with turn entry as well as adding float on those super soft days. The ski is a true cambered ski, so you’ll have no problem holding an edge on steep hard snow while enjoying the “pop” from a cambered ski.

Backcountry Magazine Review (2022): Testers appreciated the wooden topsheet almost as much as they enjoyed arcing turns on the Burnt Special, with one noting of the soul-shred style, “The beautiful wood finish reflects how these skis perform.” Another was more impressed with their dimensions, calling them “that magic, mid-fat excellence that helps make them versatile for all terrain types in average conditions.”

Carbon Burnt Special

We replaced the triaxial fiberglass layers in our traditional build with carbon layers. Skis are significantly lighter, but they remain as lively and fun as the originals.
